Smart Yachts Completes ETYC Environmental Training
Smart Yachts team took part in a full day of environmental training with ETYC, a Monaco-based programme dedicated to sustainability

On Friday 15 May, the Smart Yachts team took part in a full day of environmental training with "ETYC", a Monaco-based programme dedicated to sustainability in the yachting industry. The course is delivered through the Belle Classe Academy of the Yacht Club de Monaco and structured around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. What could have been a theoretical session turned out to be a working day, with practical exchanges on what a brokerage of our size can realistically change in its operations and in the advice it gives to clients.

The outcome of that day is the Smart Yachts "ETYC" Policy, a written commitment that we will now apply across the company. It is anchored in five SDGs: better waste management and reduced emissions, the protection of marine and terrestrial life, education and gender equality, respect for international environmental standards and active partnership with initiatives pursuing the same goals.

In practice, the policy translates into a series of measurable steps. Plastic bottles are being removed fr om the office and replaced with filtered water. Coffee is now ground in-house. Office supplies and promotional material are selected against environmental criteria, and commutes are being optimised wh ere possible. On the brokerage side, sustainable options will be raised systematically when advising owners and management companies. Consumables are chosen based on packaging, environmental impact and fair-market sourcing. The team has also committed to continuing education through further "ETYC" modules.

The policy closes on a principle we wanted to make our own: meaningful change starts at the individual level, and sustainability should be read as a mark of innovation and ambition rather than a constraint. This is the thinking behind the "SMART" acronym embedded in the policy itself:
Sustainable
Modern
Active
Responsible
Transparent
