South America is not one charter season but three running on different calendars. The southern summer from December to February is the busy one, with Reveillon and Carnival filling the Brazilian coast while the Patagonian and Antarctic ships run at capacity, and those weeks need to be committed a year ahead, sometimes more. The Galapagos never closes, but the fleet is small and permit bound, so a private yacht there goes twelve to eighteen months out for Christmas, Easter and the July and August holidays. If you want the islands without the queue for permits and berths, September and the first weeks of December are the ones that are genuinely open.
