Diving is the reason many guests come. Around the barrier reef in Lhaviyani, considered one of the most ambitious diving spots in the country, you can see a wide variety of coral species along with many tropical reef fish, imperial sea angels, nurse sharks, rays and other inhabitants of the underwater world. Elsewhere the water is gentler: in Male you can swim among magnificent coral gardens or dive to a depth of 150 metres in a submarine, while Raa is known for snorkelling, water sports, dolphin cruises and fishing.

Island hopping, atoll by atoll

Distances are part of the appeal. The islands of Shaviyani are scattered within a radius of 25 km, so you can travel a long way while resting inside a single atoll, and Raa holds a beautiful collection of uncharted islands that opens up fantastic opportunities for a beach holiday. Baa is the choice for privacy: secluded and pristine, without giving up comfort or service, and with restaurants serving delicious local and Western cuisine made from organic ingredients and fresh seafood.

When to go?

The Maldives runs on the northeast monsoon, and from December through March the dry weeks take the whole fleet with them. If you want Christmas, New Year or February, commit eight to twelve months ahead, because the festive fortnight carries seven night minimums and the better boats are gone long before that. April and late October are the weeks to ask about if availability matters more than a guaranteed dry fortnight, and rates sit well below the winter bands. May to September is the wet monsoon, the cheapest sailing of the year, and the months the mantas mass in Baa Atoll.
