60m Perini Navi KATANA awarded Best Interior Design

The 60-metre sailing yacht Katana received the award for Best Interior Design – Sailing Yachts at the BOAT Design & Innovation Awards 2026, held in Kitzbühel. The yacht was built by Perini Navi, a brand of The Italian Sea Group, with interior architecture developed by Rémi Tessier.

The award jury assessed the interior on spatial coherence, material application, and suitability for extended use under sail. According to the jury’s evaluation, the project demonstrated a consistent interior language developed for an owner with long-term and practical experience in sailing yachts.

Judges focused on how interior volumes, surfaces, and circulation were handled throughout the yacht. The layout was described as fluid, with continuous transitions between spaces and a consistent approach to form and proportion. The interior concept was developed around references to Japanese philosophy, which informed both the overall spatial logic and individual design elements.

Furniture throughout the yacht was designed as integrated pieces rather than standalone objects. Beds, seating, and fixed elements were shaped to appear visually detached from the teak flooring, creating the impression of suspended forms. A recessed tray ceiling was executed with the same approach, visually separated from surrounding structures to reinforce continuity across the interior.

The selection of materials also contributed significantly towards the jury’s opinion. Natural cedar wood in brushed finish was used as wall covering. Ivory onyx was used as basin material in bathrooms, while walnut worktops were employed. The titanium staircase with teak steps was emphasized for the simplicity of design. Some of the other notable design elements include a bathtub made of a solid piece of wood. Additional fixtures include cup holders in bathroom worktops. Copper blinds are used in order to change lighting conditions in the evenings.
